‘We’re filming it in,’ says the creator of Peaky Blinders, about Cillian Murphy’s comeback as Tommy Shelby

<p>In the Peaky Blinders movie, Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy will play Tommy Shelby again.<br />
Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight revealed to Birmingham World at the premiere of his new BBC drama The Town that Cillian Murphy would be playing the same character in the future film adaptation of the British crime thriller, Variety reported.</p>

<p>“He’s coming back for it, without a doubt. We’re filming it in September in Digbeth, just next door,” Knight said.</p>
<p>Peaky Blinders debuted internationally on BBC Two before moving to BBC One for its last two seasons. However, the show’s popularity skyrocketed once it was added to Netflix. Although the series finale aired in April 2022, Knight has always said that he intends to adapt the narrative for the big screen.</p>
<p>Cillian, in the in the meantime, is enjoying his Oscar success. His depiction of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the US scientist who designed the atomic bomb, in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer earned him his first Oscar earlier this month, closing a brilliant awards season that also saw him win a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and other honours.</p>
<p>Murphy defeated Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction), Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers), Colman Domingo (Rustin), and Bradley Cooper (Maestro) in the Academy Awards.</p>
<p>After Barry Fitzgerald in 1945 and Daniel Day-Lewis, who was born in London but is an Irish citizen, Murphy is the third Irish actor to win the Best Actor Oscar.</p>
<p>In the meantime, Cillian is also getting ready for Steve, a significant project in which he will both produce and star. Tim Mielants, the director who collaborated with Cillian on Peaky Blinders, will reunite with the actor for Steve. Although Steve’s launch date on Netflix has not yet been announced, there are rumblings that it may happen in 2025.</p>
