James Cameron and Ridley Scott Congratulate Fede Alvarez on “Alien”: Romulus

A return to the timeless thrills of the original Alien movies from the late 1970s and early 1980s is hinted at in the newly released teaser trailer for Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus. The teaser, which has recognizable spacecraft and a look of the youthful cast—which includes Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu—draws influence from Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Alvarez—who is both the writer and director of the August 15 release—shared that he was commended for his efforts on the movie by renowned directors Ridley and James.

“The dream is for all of us, and whatever it is that we do, to sit down and have a conversation about what we do and learn how to do it better with the masters of our craft,” Alvarez said. And I most certainly had that experience with Ridley throughout the process of producing this movie. At the plot level, we first discussed my plans with him, and when he read the script, we had a conversation about the screenplay. And I spoke to him about my edit after he had seen the film.”

It’s interesting to note that Fede Alvarez chose to screen the film sans visual effects (VFX) for Ridley Scott, the producer of Alien: Romulus and the brain of the series. In spite of this unorthodox decision, Alvarez claims that the director said to Ridley, “Fede, what can I say? It’s excellent.”

Fede Alvarez said, “James Cameron has now seen the film and is very pleased with it.” Their very varied notes and remarks add even more intrigue to it. They refused to play a note again. Cameron made a different statement from what Ridley stated. Thus, the wonderful aspect of being able to produce this movie is the opportunity to collaborate with them.”

Between the events of the 1979 original Alien movie and its 1986 follow-up, Alien: Romulus is set. Fede Alvarez, the director, expresses his enthusiasm and says that those who haven’t watched the movies will have a fascinating and different experience. The director is envious, as they won’t have any previous knowledge of the creature’s origins or other specifics and will be exposed to the intricate worlds of Alien for the first time. But for those who are already aware, Alvarez promises an interesting experience and the ability to pick up on connections to the previous movies.

The narrative centers on a group of adolescent scavengers and colonists in space who stumble across a bloodthirsty Xenomorph on an abandoned space station. The seventh installment in the Alien series, including the Aliens vs. Predator movie, is called Alien: Romulus.
