Kuldeep Yadav, who was taken aback by the spin available in the third Twenty20 International at The Wanderers, said that the speed and bounce of the South African wickets, which are often noted for their pace, also suit spinners on the current trip.

On Thursday, Kuldeep celebrated his 29th birthday in style by becoming the second Indian bowler, after Bhuvneshwar Kumar, to claim multiple five-wicket hauls in Twenty20 Internationals. He accomplished the milestone as the first Indian spinner to do so. In T20Is, Kuldeep and Bhuvneshwar each have two fifers.

It proved to be a memorable day. I’ve never considered claiming five wickets. What matters more to me is that the team wins,” Kuldeep said.

“I wanted to find my rhythm since I was worried about my bowling because I was playing after a while. Today was ideal. The ball was leaving the hand well, and the circumstances were rather favorable for the spinners.

The three-match T20 series ended with a 1-1 draw as India defeated South Africa by 106 runs behind Kuldeep’s comeback with stats of 5/17 from 2.5 overs.

“To tell the truth, the spinners have excellent wickets. These wickets have the advantage that the ball arrives extremely rapidly after pitching. It is thus occasionally necessary to modify your variants, and if you get it right, picking becomes really challenging,” he said.

Kuldeep last participated in a game in South Africa in 2018, but his career was put on hold for six to seven months in 2021 due to a knee ailment that required surgery.

Nevertheless, he made a successful comeback to the field using a fresh method.

“I was relatively new in 2018 and suffered with my injuries for a few of years after that. After surgery, I returned and changed a few things about my bowling, particularly my run-up. Kuldeep said, “I’m just trying to bowl much straighter and with more aggression, with an emphasis on length.”

Similar to his colleagues, Kuldeep needed some time to recover after his defeat to Australia in the ODI World Cup final. “It was incredibly hard to get started. The first seven or ten days weren’t easy. The fear of losing the World Cup final would torment me every morning. However, life evolves and carries on. I just performed in South Africa in 2018, so I was familiar with the environment,” he remarked.

“In cricket what you want never happens and you have to learn from them and implement those in future matches.” India’s 201 for 7 in the third Twenty20 International, which the Proteas were unable to chase down after being bowled for 95 in 13.5 overs, was made possible by captain Suryakumar Yadav’s explosive 56-ball century.

“Butterfly, Surya bhai batted. The pitch was not very simple to bat on, therefore it was amazing to see how he was hitting. Watching him bat was quite enjoyable, Kuldeep said.

The visit will now consist of a three-match ODI series, which will begin in Johannesburg on Sunday.
